STATE PARTNERSHIP COORDINATOR SOLIDARITY WITH THE SAHARA
for decolonization and independence of the Sahara First official meeting of the Instituto Cervantes Movement Solidarity with the Saharawi People
• Among the claims that the State Coordinator of Associations in Solidarity with the Sahara CEAS-Sahara, has transferred to the Director of the Instituto Cervantes, Carmen Caffarel, highlighted the opening of a Centre and a Library of Instituto Cervantes in refugee camps and Sahrawi refugees. • The Instituto Cervantes is shielded in the crisis and budget cuts to convey the impossibility of opening new centers until 2014, but remains committed to continue contributing in education, training and promotion of English in the Saharawi refugee camps through the AECI project. • CEAS-Sahara is disappointed at not having achieved the desired result. However, values \u200b\u200bthat this new "open door" to maintain new contacts in the future to establish concrete commitments. • This meeting was held in the framework of the Meeting of Directors of Cervantes, held yesterday in Alcazar San Juan (Ciudad Real) and that closed the Princes of Asturias on Thursday. Madrid, July 20, 2010. The meeting, an hour and a half, has been developed at the Hotel Intur in an atmosphere of cordiality and friendliness, which was attended by the director of the Instituto Cervantes (IC), Carmen Caffarel, accompanied by his cabinet and Mayor of Alcazar de San Juan, José Fernando Sánchez Bódalo. On behalf of the Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi people have participated Miguel Castro, Secretary of State Coordinator Organization of Associations in Solidarity with the Sahara (CEAS-Sahara), and their movements responsible for Social and Isidoro Vegue and Communications University, Santiago Jiménez. CEAS-Sahara has moved to the Director of the Instituto Cervantes their demands on the role that English should be among the Saharawi population, specifically in the following claims: • Increased involvement and commitment of Cervantes in the dissemination and promotion of English among the Saharawi • Open Center and Instituto Cervantes Library in the Saharawi refugee camps • Take the dissemination and promotion of writers and poets publications in English Saharan • Involvement in the education system in the Saharawi refugee camps

for decolonization and independence of the Sahara, for its part, the Director of the Instituto Cervantes said that recent years have developed Cervantes education activities, training and promotion of English through projects of Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the AECI. But he said that the crisis and budget cuts are affecting the establishment of new offices of Cervantes, which are being opened were scheduled in period before his assumption of office as director. Therefore, the projection of new headquarters is now closed and until 2014 no changes are contemplated in this regard. He clarified, however, that the Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is unable to decide where to open new offices as the Institute is not an NGO but is part of the Government. We also appreciated that in collaboration with AECI to contribute laterally to the training of teachers Saharawi Castilian, including through online training. On the Saharawi population in the Occupied Territories Western Sahara, for obvious reasons, does not provide any action. expressed his personal commitment to move our demands and requests to Mr. Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Spain. Although no hope that the Institute get involved directly in the promotion of Castilian among the Saharawi, CEAS-Sahara is expected that in future meetings, to keep the door open for new contacts, progress is made specific commitments to correct the "oversight" that the Sahrawi population has suffered these past 35 years by the Instituto Cervantes. There are many reasons that lead to raise these proposals by the CEAS-Sahara. Among these are the following: • The Saharawi people have been part of our culture and our history for over 100 years, from 1884 to 1975. • Since 1958, by the Presidential Order of 10 January, went on to hold the rank of English province with the name of "Province of Sahara." • In refugee camps, children and young Saharawi schools have as a second language English language, which is taught on a compulsory basis from the 3 rd year primary. • The only people throughout the region that is francophone, but still has the English language as an alternative to the Saharan language spoken by the "Hassania" dialect of Arabic. • The English language in the last 15 years has recovered thanks to the "Holidays in Peace" among the population under 25 years. Over 80% of young Sahrawi speak the English language fluently. For more information:
