February 28, 2011 Camps Western Saharan refugees in Tindouf (Algeria )
THE CAUSE: This is the tenth edition of this race solidarity that aims at raising awareness and International action in a conflict that lasts more than 35 years. More than three decades, but the parties involved to reach an agreement and without the international community to get this impasse. Three decades of suffering for a people who suffer the consequences of a conflict burying their hopes, generation after generation in refugee camps in Tindouf (Algeria), far from home. The Sahara Marathon aims to raise awareness through sport in Western society to prevent the Saharawi cause to be forgotten and secondly to raise funds for humanitarian aid projects for refugees. RACING: Although the marathon is the main program run simultaneously held evidence of other distances. All of them take place on the morning of day 28 and they all end in the Goal of Smara. THE TRIP: The delegation from Madrid flies directly to Tindouf in a charter flight company Air Algerie. The flight made a stop at Oran and Algiers (without getting off the plane) and landed at the airport about 50 km Tindouf camps. The flight schedule is requested, "Madrid-Tindouf: Friday 25: 21:00 pm-Tindouf-Madrid: Friday 4: 18:30 (arrival in Madrid: 23.30 h.)
VISA: The organization is responsible for compulsory collective processing of visa to enter Algeria. To do all participants have that have valid passport and provide the number with an advance of 30 days before departure (no valid ID).
THE PROJECT: The contributions of all the runners and money raised from individuals or institutions for the project is full of humanitarian aid in camps. During recent years there have been numerous charity projects, from building sports courts or sports schools, the sending of caravans in solidarity with medicines, school supplies and sports equipment. This year revenues will be allocated to various projects to promote and monitor training sports and sports development. The organization also provides hospitals and schools material aid provided by companies or individuals with the following priorities: basic medicines-Material-school-sports equipment is not acceptable clothing or equipment worn or in disrepair. We must respect the dignity of refugees and not take them as far as we no longer useful. Either way, the organization of the Sahara Marathon is more supportive of the acquisition of these goods in the camps and to strengthen a sustainable economy. Due to limited cargo plane and after the experience of previous years, can only be lightweight and first need. 1 row = 1 kit Runners who wish to contribute to the delivery of volunteer help eligible for the program "1 Corridor = 1 kit" to get staff individually and as many Saharawi families by providing them a small kit of basic medicines. The kit should contain the basic tools (scissors, tweezers, thermometer, cotton, gauze, tape, strips ...) and can be supplemented with basic medicines for household use (Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, or Apiretal Další, anti-diarrhea, anti-inflammatory ointment, eye drops, Betadine ...) The kit should be checked on the plane and deliver it each corridor directly to family or other close family.
STAY: All participants and accompanying persons will be accommodated in Haima Saharan family. The distribution is done in groups of 5 people randomly haimas unless enrollment in showing any preference for grouping with friends or relatives. Those interested in staying with a family Saharan known, should also indicate in advance, provide the information on the family and get in touch with her to report their visit. All foster families receive assistance from the organization and instructions and, generally, are very hospitable and will make you feel like family members. If someone wants to make a donation to your family, you can do freely. In the case of several, it's good to spread the amount between neighboring haimas family or friends to help reach more people. FOOD: The organization provides all participants with a pasta dinner the night before the races and breakfast on the morning of 22 and a picnic after the race. The other meals are made in the respective families haimas Saharawi (lentils, couscous, salads, camel or goat meat, fried potatoes, pasta ...) It is very important to only drink bottled water you get there (with no tea no problem.) We also recommend to take some canned or vacuum-packed luncheon for support. Although they are Muslims, do not bother because toméis ham or sausage and even some of the test.
SHOPS: In the camps there are many shops where you can buy handicrafts, calling from a telephone booth, have a drink or buy cookies and many other foods. In stores you can pay with Algerian Dinar or euros but it is advisable to bring small bills.
HYGIENE: We go to a refugee camp in the desert so we forget about the shower and other amenities that we offer our toilet in every house there is a bathroom with a toilet on the floor and I always offer a bowl of water so you can clean. Race day, if no water problems, all you can ducharos in the race office building (wear flip-flops, shampoo and towel).
LUGGAGE Although each passenger is permitted to carry 15 kilos, we ask that luggage be as light as possible in order to bring more humanitarian aid. Recommend wearing little clothing and very comfortable. The spring temperature during the day (25 º) and a little cool at night (10 degrees). PROGRAM: Although it is not easy to fulfill a program schedule in the camps, the organization plans to travel to the following schedule: Friday 25: Flight Madrid Tindouf. Accommodation in Smara. Saturday 26: Morning free in Smara. Inscriptions. Sunday 27: Acts of the Saharawi National Day celebration dinner of pasta and instructions career. Monday 28: Sahara Marathon 2011 Tuesday 1: Award ceremony. Program of cultural visits. Wednesday 2: Football, boys race. Thursday 3: Excursion to the dunes of Smara. Friday 4: Going to the airport. Tindouf-Madrid flight. * In this edition, the trip will pass mainly in Smara camp. For logistical, budgetary and security is deleted Dahla expedition, we hope to return in future editions.
